Oranges and Wisdom

Sunlit orbs of knowledge
burden the branches
of the forbidden tree
Citrus is sinful
but apples are slightly less documented as deceitful
than most may believe
The leaves and branches wrap around me
supporting and holding my every intention
Leaning they warm to receive me
offering their colourful spherical babies
as they outgrew the abundance of siblings in orbit around them

Tearing the crust from the orange globe in my hand
I reached the soft wet and succulent core
ate, and grew wise

i like that – it’s alright that. not bad.

  • Benvolio says:

I love apples and will frequently eat the very core, which I’m told contains cyanide. Any botanists in the house?

  • 50 Duckets says:

Apparently if you eat the core it means that A. you are more likely to be psycho and B. you can’t get no satisfaction. unlucky.

  • This Makes My Tent says:

The seeds contain cyanide, but you would have to consume a large amount in one sitting to cause you real problems.
