I Am Agog

Agog

The policemen are collapsing, oh lady of the street,
They’re collapsing just to hope to roll and coyly touch your feet,
They collapse against their vehicles and they’re clutching at their friends
I’m agog at the effect you seem to have on policemen

I’m agog and slightly sickened
Then you turn your eye to me
I have to stand myself up straighter
And I say I have to leave

Oh the trees are all inclining and the light is bearing in
Towards the place you’re standing with your stainless precious skin
Even time is slowing down awhile to slip against your sighs
I’m agog and I’m a’sinking ‘gainst the nature of this tide

I’m agog now every morning
I’m agog still when I sleep
My mouth is hanging open for the air you warmly breathe

All the angels and the devils and the indiscreet and ill
Are clutching past the crowds of living dead and living still
I’m a’washed inside these whispers saying someone saw your face
I do believe you’re twisting sense itself to settle in your grace

I’m agog and I am crippled
I’m suspended in surprise
And still I find myself in circles
Moving slowly to your side

I am agog oh pretty lady
I’m submerged beneath my pride
And I find myself in circles
Moving slowly to your side
